Asymptotic behavior of second-order dissipative evolution equations combining potential with non-potential effects

In the setting of a real Hilbert space H, we investigate the asymptotic behavior, as time t goes to infinity, of trajectories of second-order evolution equations ü(t) + γu̇(t) +∇φ(u(t)) +A(u(t)) = 0, where ∇φ is the gradient operator of a convex differentiable potential function φ : H → IR, A : H → H is a maximal monotone operator which is assumed to be λ-cocoercive, and γ > 0 is a damping parameter. Potential and non-potential effects are associated respectively to ∇φ and A. Under condition λγ > 1, it is proved that each trajectory asymptotically weakly converges to a zero of ∇φ+A. This condition, which only involves the non-potential operator and the damping parameter, is sharp and consistent with time rescaling. Passing from weak to strong convergence of the trajectories is obtained by introducing an asymptotically vanishing Tikhonov-like regularizing term. As special cases, we recover the asymptotic analysis of the heavy ball with friction dynamic attached to a convex potential, the secondorder gradient-projection dynamic, and the second-order dynamic governed by the Yosida approximation of a general maximal monotone operator. The breadth and flexibility of the proposed framework is illustrated through applications in the areas of constrained optimization, dynamical approach to Nash equilibria for noncooperative games, and asymptotic stabilization in the case of a continuum of equilbria.

Asymptotic behavior of solutions to a class of fourth-order nonlinear evolution equations with dispersive and dissipative terms
We study the long time asymptotic behavior of solutions to a class of fourth-order nonlinear evolution equations with dispersive and dissipative terms. By using the integral estimation method combined with the Gronwall inequality, we point out that the global strong solutions of the problems decay to zero exponentially with the passage of time to infinity. The proof is rigorous and only based o...
متن کاملCausal Theories of Dissipative Relativistic Fluid Dynamics for Nuclear Collisions
In the early stages of heavy ion collisions, non– equilibrium effects play a dominant role. A complete description of the dynamics of heavy ion reactions needs to include the effects of dissipation through non– equilibrium/dissipative fluid dynamics. As is well–known [1], extended theories (which are hyperbolic and causal) of dissipative fluids due to Grad [2], Müller [3], and Israel and Stewar...
متن کاملSlip Effects on Ohmic Dissipative Non-Newtonian Fluid Flow in the Presence of Aligned Magnetic Field
The present paper deals with the effects of Ohmic dissipative Casson fluid flow over a stretching sheet in the presence of aligned magnetic field. The present phenomenon also includes the interaction of thermal radiation and velocity slip. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using the similarity transformations. The dimensionless ...
متن کاملOn the Minimizing Property of a Second Order Dissipative System in Hilbert Spaces
We study the asymptotic behavior at infinity of solutions of a second order evolution equation with linear damping and convex potential. The differential system is defined in a real Hilbert space. It is proved that if the potential is bounded from below, then the solution trajectories are minimizing for it and converge weakly towards a minimizer of Φ if one exists; this convergence is strong wh...
متن کاملPullback D-attractors for non-autonomous partly dissipative reaction-diffusion equations in unbounded domains
At present paper, we establish the existence of pullback $mathcal{D}$-attractor for the process associated with non-autonomous partly dissipative reaction-diffusion equation in $L^2(mathbb{R}^n)times L^2(mathbb{R}^n)$. In order to do this, by energy equation method we show that the process, which possesses a pullback $mathcal{D}$-absorbing set, is pullback $widehat{D}_0$-asymptotically compact.
